    I am looking at getting this camera with the 500mm f5.6 pf which does not have a control ring. Can you assign a control dial for this function without having to press the ISO button? Also how good is video in crop mode?

    • @backcountrygallery
      @backcountrygallery 5 часов назад

      Unfortunately, you can't assign ISO to the 500PF - you have to have a Z lens. I don't do much video, so I can't really say one way or another. My wife has shot with it a bit and seems to like the camera for video work, but it's mostly been full frame.

      It does. I don't use them, but I do detail how to use them for those that want to.

  • @houserhythm
    @houserhythm 6 часов назад

    I really hate that Nikon doesn't give the user the option for whether to update user settings/shooting banks dynamically or always come back the the settings saved originally. Like you can choose on other brands. I'm using a Z8 and I'd really like the settings saved in shooting banks to be "sticky." I keep my OM-1 dial on C1 and every time I start the camera I know w/o giving it any thought what settings I'm starting from, I can get to my desired exposure w/o ever looking at the camera. With the Z8 I had to force myself to set everything the way I want it every time I shut off the camera, because sometimes there is no time to check settings when you turn it on - you see something and want to immediately shoot, not think about settings. But I get that some people prefer it the other way around (like the Z8 does it currently) and that's why there should be an option for everyone to choose. (I also like that the OM-1 saves everything in a custom settings bank - from exposure, to drive mode, af mode/area, subject detection, even which card slot to save to (maybe you don't want to mix up your landscapes with your action shots))

Can you dial in U1, change the setting from 1/3200 to 1/1600, turn off the camera. for a while and then turn it on again, without switching to any other User Setting and still have 1/1600, or has it gone back to the saved value of 1/3200?

    It's a bit sad & disappointing that the Z6iii doesn't have the "Cycle AF Area" option & the separate Bird AF. Hopefully Nikon will come to their senses and add it in future updates because both Sony/Canon doesn't cripple their autofocus in their new full frame bodies. The Canon R6ii has the R3 autofocus. The Sony A7C II has the A7RV autofocus.

    Technical Question. Do you think I would get a better quality BIF image from the Nikon Z6 iii with its very fast AF and a Nikon 500mm pf prime lens (cant afford the 600mm) than with my APSc fujifilm XH2s (26mp) with a 600mm (900mm FF equiv) f8 zoom lens which has relatively slow AF. In focus photos with sharp eye lack definition in the feathers compared to still photos at the same distance. I am concerned about the lower pixel density on the Z6iii and whether the image quality of the FF would be better than the APSc particularly in low light.

    Nice shot of the Anhinga. I have a similar shot of looking at the neck/mouth of the bird with the structures showing. It is not as nicely backlit. It was around 10 am in Green Cay Nature Preserve. If in Florida again you should check out Wakodahatchee Preserve in January through March when the birds are winter nesting, mating and hatching. There are lots of Egrets, Blue Herons, Cow Egrets, Night Herons, Anhingas, Cormorants, Red Wing Blackbirds and Wood Storks. You are on a boardwalk but you can get to within 20-50 feet of them. I got a shot of a Blue Heron about 5 feet from me. Apparently some of the birds are people tolerant. Both preserves are within a 10-15 minutes drive of each other.
